Greetings from Kristin

Can you believe it's February already? Weren't we just wrapping holiday gifts and baking? Oh, well, I guess it's time to put away the cookies and reach for the chocolate hearts. :) And love isn't the only thing I'm celebrating this month. My new novel, Firefly Lane, is being released today, February 5th. And since it's a valentine to female friendship, I think it's perfect timing.
So what's the book about, you ask? It's a big, juicy, emotionally complex novel about two women who have been friends for thirty years. It's the kind of book I love to read, with larger than life characters making difficult, wrenching decisions. These two women, who meet as girls in the glittering, disco seventies in a small town, make a pact one terrible night: best friends forever. It is a vow that holds true, creating a friendship that becomes the bulkhead of their lives, solid and durable...until one fateful day when a shocking betrayal rips them apart. It's a story that reaffirms the importance of friendship in our lives and reminds us all to slow down a little, to appreciate the people who have made us who we are, and to stay close to the people we love. Firefly Lane is for anyone who ever drank Boone's Farm while listening to Abba or Fleetwood Mac...for any woman who has ever dreamed of finding true love, or wanted a life too big to fit in an ordinary space. But mostly it's for every woman who knows what it means to stay true to your best friend, even when your heart seems to be breaking. Because what Kate and Tully say is absolutely true: careers change, men come and go, children grow up, but girlfriends are forever.
If you're like me, it's a fun trip down memory lane to remember the girls and women who have mattered in your life. So to kick off Firefly Lane I'm having a Best Friends Contest, which you can read more about later in this newsletter. I'd love to hear your stories. Also, there's a second contest - a signed book giveaway for readers who are subscribed to my newsletter. Five winners will be selected to win a signed copy of Firefly Lane. If you are reading this online and have not signed up for the newsletter, click on the newsletter link on the right side home page of the website and sign up! Already signed up? Then you already are entered to win. Good luck to all!
I will be on tour in February and March and would love to meet you if you are in the area when I am on the road. Also, for those of you who would like signed books, they are available at Liberty Bay Books in Poulsbo, Washington. Details on this can be found later in this newsletter.
To the shock and amazement of my family and friends, I'm taking a journey into the dark side--blogging. I hope you all join me and post comments along the way. I've enjoyed reading what readers have said thus far and I look forward to hearing what you have to say.
And since I know that Firefly Lane is a perfect book club read, I've suggested some ways to liven up your discussion, and I will be available for book club discussions by phone. See details on how to get your group scheduled to talk to me.
Here's to great reminiscing of old best friend friendships, as well as the best friends you now have.....
Aloha, Kristin

On my new website I have some ideas on how to make the evening special. Be sure to check them out. I’m sure you all can come up with more ideas on your own. Let me know what your "big idea" is on how you’re going to celebrate friendship during your Firefly Lane book group discussion. Additionally, I would love to talk to book clubs by phone. There's a form located here where you can request my participation in your discussion. Click here to read a suggested discussion guide for Firefly Lane.

Firefly Lane Playlist
|
|
Music was a big part of my inspiration as I wrote Firefly Lane. I've compiled a list of songs that Kate and Tully listened to through the years. See how closely they match the songs that you remember growing up! You can see the list here and listen to it here.
